How to take anthropometric measurements for choosing a bike

There are many areas in which the detection of anthropometric measures plays a fundamental role. In tailoring it allows you to create tailor-made clothes, by the nutritionist it allows you to observe the lost cm and with your personal trainer you can instead monitor the growth and development of your muscles. But these are some of the areas in which it is necessary to record your anthropometric data, in fact a correct taking of measurements also serves to choose the right bicycle for your build and for your morphotype.

In cycling, in fact, taking measurements is a very important aspect. Choosing the bicycle that best suits your measurements might seem like a step for professionals only, but in reality it is a recommended phase for anyone who decides to buy a bicycle, even just for fun and passion.

Certainly a bicycle suitable for the length of your leg, with a handlebar positioned at the right distance helps you to be more performing on the track but not only, it also allows you to use your muscles correctly and therefore have more safety and driving stability.

But what are the measures to be taken when choosing a bicycle?

Measures to be taken

Before seeing how to detect these anthropometric measurements, let's see together what they are:

Height: the height indicates the total height of the person and is an indispensable measure for choosing the most suitable bicycle. By indicating the stature it will be easier to understand which type of build you belong to and then make the choice accordingly.

Bust: the length of the bust is that between the ischial vertex and the sternum. With this measure it is possible to evaluate the distance between the saddle of the bike and the handlebar and adjust the extension of the horizontal tube.

Horse: this measure allows you to adjust the height of the saddle. Of all the measures necessary to choose a bicycle, this is the one that is measured most often, even by non-professionals.

Femur: in addition to the right height of the saddle, the retraction is also very important and to position it in the right place you need to measure the length of the femur, i.e. the measurement that goes from the ischial vertex and the knee.

Shoulders: the measurement of the shoulders, or rather, the width and therefore the distance between the two clavicle joints allows you to define the width of the handlebar.

Arms: the length of the arms is measured from the joint of the clavicle to the point of intersection between the metacarpus of the hand and the thumb. This measure is used to understand the length of the stem and where to place the brakes.

All these measures we have said serve to guarantee better performance but also to reduce the incorrect use of the muscles. Now are you wondering how to take all these measures without making mistakes? Here is our App that's right for you!

Taking measures

Taking all these anthropometric measurements without making a mistake is not so simple, meanwhile several tools are needed such as the measuring tape, the round pin, a metric level, a straight wall, etc .; but it is also necessary to know well the focal points between which to measure. Our Apps - SizeYou and SizeYou Professional - allow you to take all these measurements precisely with just two clicks.

The artificial intelligence system of our Apps allows you to take the two photographs in total anonymity, in fact the two shots are taken with two perspectives, side and back.

To make the shots you need:

- Wear tight clothing

- Take off your shoes

- Collect the hair if it is long

- Ask a friend for help

- Have the light source behind who takes the photo

- Be 2 meters away from the shooter

- Have a uniform background

For the side photo, just position yourself in profile; for the photo from the back, legs and arms must also be widened.

It's easier to do than to say, so we invite you to give it a try now
